OUR STORY – VDC RAISINS

VDC Raisins is deeply rooted in the sun- drenched vineyards of South Africa’s Northern Cape, where the Orange River breathes life into an arid landscape. Since 1942, the Van Der Colff family has cultivated this land with unwavering dedication, blending tradition and innovation to produce exceptional vine fruit.
As a grower-packer, we combine deep agricultural expertise with advanced processing capabilities to overcome challenges, meet evolving market demands, and deliver customized solutions. Our journey began in 1942, with humble roots when the Van der Colff family purchased their first piece of land on Kanoneiland, 30 kilometres west of Upington. With over half a century of experience in agriculture, the family expanded their operations in 1997, establishing their headquarters approximately 15 kilometres outside Upington. This expanded their total farming operations to approximately 500 hectares today (2025).

Our Vision

To inspire trust and create sustainable value for our growers and customers, driven by our passion for producing the world’s finest dried vine fruit.

Our Mission

Empowering growers and delighting customers with world-class vine fruit. Guided by innovation, sustainability, and respect for people, we deliver exceptional value and ensure operational excellence from field to final delivery.

In 2006,

Gog van der Colff founded Carpe Diem Raisins, expanding operations to include the processing and export of raisins from both their own produce and select growers. Over
the past two decades, Gog has significantly influenced South Africa’s raisin industry through innovation, experience-driven strategies, and a commitment to enhancing value for local growers.

In its

first season,

Carpe Diem processed 500 tons of raisins, growing to nearly 20,000 tons annually – 25% of the national supply – within 20 years. This growth was supported
by a skilled professional team specializing in agriculture, production, and customer relations.

After exiting Carpe Diem Raisins, Gog launched a new venture,

VDC Raisins,

in 2024. In its first year, the company secured an impressive 7,000 tons of product. Building on a robust network, deep industry knowledge, and an experienced team, VDC Raisins aims to serve the South African raisin industry by delivering safe, high-quality products that meet international customer expectations.

OUR LOGO

The VDC Raisins logo encapsulates our identity through three symbolic elements: the sun, representing vitality, growth, and a brighter future; the Orange River, embodying life, renewal, and harmony between nature and human endeavour; and the desert rose, a tribute to resilience, adaptability, and enduring beauty. Together, these elements reflect our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence, celebrating the unique spirit of our region and the values that guide our journey.

The Sun

A Beacon of Energy and Growth

At the top of the logo, a radiant sun is depicted, symbolizing vitality, energy, and the promise of new horizons. Its radiant form represents the warmth and life-giving force that sustains our endeavours, embodying optimism and the pursuit of progress.
The sun’s presence in the design highlights its role as a guiding light, illuminating our vision and inspiring growth, resilience, and prosperity. It serves as a reminder of the boundless opportunities that arise with each dawn, aligning with our commitment to a brighter future. This powerful element not only adds vibrancy to the logo but also strengthens its connection to the natural beauty and enduring spirit of the region.

The Orange River

A Lifeline of Vitality and Renewal

Flowing gracefully beneath the sun, a stylized river winds through the heart
of the logo, symbolizing the lifeblood of the region. As a central element
of the design, the river embodies the harmony between nature and human
endeavour, reflecting the interconnectedness of life in our region. Its presence serves as a tribute to the life-stream that sustains our communities, fuels our aspirations, and shapes the land’s identity. The Orange River in our logo is more than a geographic feature-it is a symbol of renewal, wealth, and the enduring promise of thriving against all odds.

The Desert Rose

A Symbol of Elegance and Resilience Gracefully positioned at the base of the logo, the desert rose symbolizes the extraordinary beauty and resilience of life flourishing in an arid environment. The Desert Rose serves as a reminder of the values we hold dear: adaptability, strength, and an unwavering commitment to growth even in the face of challenges. Its presence within the logo signifies not only a tribute to nature, but also a promise to uphold its legacy of resilience and beauty in everything we do.
